They docked the boats that sailed the naviglio that comes from the Ticino, carrying building materials, marble for the cathedral and sand, in addition to the paper for the printing of the ‘Corriere della Sera’.
Today, after years of neglect and missed speculation, the dock, whose current guise is due to a rehabilitation project from 1920, is being reborn as a meeting place and leisure for the Milanese.
Along the two vessels that flow into the port, built from 1152, numerous premises were born, also equipped with verandas on anchored boats, particularly frequented in the evenings and on weekends, when the banks host antique and flower markets. The waterways overlook simple railing houses of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, partly transformed into artist's ateliers, artisan shops and art galleries and antiques.
The Lane of the Lavandai is instead an interesting national monument that preserves the old stone washbasins with wooden canopies, used until the early twentieth century by the men who washed their clothes in a canal on the sides of the canal. A bike path runs along the large Naviglio lift for many kilometers and in the summer of summer, liner boats sail the waters of the canal to Abbiategrasso.
